This past Thursday morning, we were startled to see clouds of smoke coming up from downtown Albuquerque on our way to the studio. It turns out the Golden West Saloon, a historic landmark in downtown ABQ, caught fire Thursday morning. Not only was it utterly destroyed but the fire also damaged nearby venues, including the El Rey Theatre and The Launchpad. The Golden West Saloon was built in the 1920s by Luigi Puccini (cousin of famous opera composer Giacomo Puccini). Many people are saddened by the loss of this landmark, especially music lovers who have witnessed thousands of great bands and performances at the El Rey. It was a wild morning. Adios Golden West.
