Olympic logo snuffed out
Posted in: Industry

You may be familiar with the logo proposed for Chicago as it vies to host the 2016 Olympic Games. We love this logo! It has a beautiful artistic strength about it. Not only does it represent the olympics with the iconic torch imagery, but it also expresses the beauty of the city of Chicago: Lake Michigan, the lush green spaces (including roofs), and its world-renowned architecture. It's also a powerful statement of triumph for the city; it did after-all "rise from the ashes" after the Great Chicago Fire of 1871 burned much of the city. Unfortunately - but dutifully - the Olympic Committee vetoed the logo and they have to start over again. International Olympic Committee rules state that any city logo "shall not contain the Olympic symbol, the Olympic, motto, the Olympic flag, any other Olympic-related imagery [such as] flame, torch, medal, etc." With such a successful expression of the first logo, I believe we'll be seeing a similar execution with the next one - at least that's the hope. It's also said that the inspiration for the color selection of the new logo came from our logo... juuuuust kidding.

Also, on April 14, 2007, the United States Olympic Committee announced that Chicago has won the right to represent the United States in the effort to host the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Now begins the international phase of the competition.
